This proposal of a hostel is located in Mechelen, on two quays that were once used as a lock, on the river Dyle.

The project consists of several modules with the proportions of shipping containers (*1.4). These containers-like blocks seamlessly integrate into the industrial environment through their volume, while standing out by their materiality.

These modules are made of CLT (cross-laminated timber), chosen for its prefabrication benefits, low carbon emissions and overall efficiency (structural and thermal). The modules are insulated with cork panels, which remain visible on the exterior, contributing the their unique aesthetic. The modules are a little bit elevated from the ground, that way they appear lighter and as if they were levitating.
