Peace Cabin – Personnal

The peace cabin is the project of a cabin located in Mount Kigali, Rwanda. Surrounded by nature and hidden in the vegetation, this small wood and cardboard construction faces the view and creates a rudimentary hideaway. The plan is simple, three rectangles, the platform, the cabin and the roof. The cabin is simple, a bed is placed in the corner and a desk in front of the window. The main focus is the view, the nature.

The goal with this project was to make a sustainable construction. The roof has two layers to allow air to pass and reduce heat inside. The cabin structure is completely made of wood. The wall are filled with a cardboard brick, made from recycled cardboard and paper, mixed with a natural binder and then compressed in a mold. The development of this “brick” is a first attempt at making a natural material made from recycled matter. Many possibilities can still be explored with this “brick”. Tests are to be made to see how much weight it can hold and how insulating it is.
